What is a Montage
What is a Montage? Based on the type of montages seen today. A montage is seen in three ways
- Photo montage
- Video Montage
- Radio Montage
A photo montage can be the process of using photos or images to produce a blended presentation that people can view either in a book, on a computer or on the internet. It’s can range from taking images to present a theme to people to a simple collection of images. Though more often than not it’s put together to reflect a overall theme like, action, romance, family, vacation, fun, birth etc.
Video montages are more common nowday with the surge of phones, digital cameras, camcorders coming readily available with the options of uploading to the internet video sites like youtube and so on. They usually range from 3 to a 5 minute presentation set to music. Our site is an example of that, where people focus on tv shows and movies and they take parts from shows and weave them together with a favourite song. As you can tell from the videos on this site they are full of emotion and instead of just snapping together a few cuts from a show, those who have been at it a while usually will add different transition effects, and dynamic scenes to invoke the emotion of people watching just at a critical point in the song or scene. There are thousands of these videos being created daily and shared online and many of the best ones are created by people of all ages. Many of these people started without any knowledge of video editing, and have learned through trial and error. It takes a lot of time and patience to do it, but its very addicting… I know as I create them myself. Creating a decent montage can take anywhere from 1hr to 8 hours depending on how fluent a person is in using editing software and how professional they want the end product to be.
Television and movies provide the ultimate examples of montages as they have peoples whos only job is to do that. Create intros, trailers, and teasers for new episodes, seasons and films. I can forsee many people who are creating youtube montages landing a career with leading tv and movie companies.
Radio montages while not as popular are basically clips that cross fade and mix together with music and voice. Usually you will hear these at the start , middle and end of radio segments.
